UNLV lands Duquesne transfer Jackie Johnson

Kevin Kruger has landed his first player out of the transfer portal this offseason.

Jackie Johnson announced on Saturday that he is headed to UNLV.

Johnson was a three star recruit in the 2021 class, according to 247 Sports. As a freshman at Duquesne, Johnson played in 30 games, making 11 starts. He averaged 19.4 minutes and 9.5 points per game.

Johnson shot it well from three, knocking down 37.5 percent of his threes, while taking 3.7 triples per game. He was a slightly below average finisher, making 54.3 percent of his shots at the rim.

Johnson will not help UNLV improve its size on the perimeter, as he is listed at 5-foot-11.

Despite coming off the bench, Johnson had the highest usage rate at Duquesne last season. So UNLV may be adding a primary ball handler to the roster.
