UNLV will play a road game in San Francisco next season, the first game in a home and home series, according to Jon Rothstein.
The Rebels will play the Dons on December 4th and receive a return trip in the 2022-23 season.
Despite finishing just 11-14 last season, San Francisco has been a solid WCC team, finishing in the Ken Pom top 100 in each of the last three seasons. (UNLV has one top 100 finish in the last eight seasons.)
Plus, my favorite coach, Todd Golden is headed into his third seasons at San Francisco. Prior to the hiring of Kevin Kruger, I laid out why Todd Golden was my preferred choice for the job.
This is the second road game on the schedule for UNLV, as they will also make the trip to Texas to play SMU.
UNLV’s 2020-21 non-conference schedule
Home games: UCLA, Cal
Road games: SMU, San Francisco
Neutral site: MGM Main Event (2 of Michigan, Arizona and Wichita State)
UNLV has six games filled out for this season. Most of these matchups should help the Rebels NCAA Tournament case. Only Cal was outside the Ken Pom top 100 last season.
If UNLV is going to make a serious run at an NCAA Tournament spot, they likely need at least one more game against a top 50 (preferably a top 20) opponent. But for now, Kevin Kruger has put together a strong schedule for his first season.
